Surrender community was conceived by Andre, in collaboration with Auroville Town Planning and the future residents. It started off as a collective experiment in community building, in the early nineties; which showed a rapid population increase in Auroville. The Surrender houses were designed according to needs of residents, with parameters for size and ecological concerns provided by Town Planning.
Surrender currently counts fourteen houses (family/single) and four studios for temporary housing. The water tower contains three small offices cum ateliers, on top of each other. The community (now 35 residents) shares a water recycling pond with a neighbouring community.
